Asst. Professor Dr. Anwar Koma, a local government lecturer at the Faculty of Political Science, initiated an innovative outdoor learning system for the Non-Government Organization Class. Each week, 8 students are invited to explore and learn directly from various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in Pattani. On August 6, four Indonesian intern students participated in this outdoor course. Some of them came from different universities: Dewi Indah Berliana and Dayandri Trisatya Fatanabullah from the State University of Malang, Siti Latifah from STIT At-Taqwa Ciparay Bandung, Rasyid Muhammad Syavie from STBA Bina Dinamika Bekasi. The local government and Indonesian students had the opportunity to visit the Deep South Watch (DSW) Community in Pattani. This class was conducted during a group meeting with some of the DSW teams from each province at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, PSU Pattani Campus. It has been 10 months since the incident in Gaza on October 23rd, 2023, but until now the conflict between Israel and Palestine has not subsided. This incident has attracted attention from various parts of the world, especially from countries that support Palestine, one of country is Turkey. Turkey plays a very active role in defending Palestine by providing various forms of support. One of the significant steps taken by Turkey is to limit the export of 54 products to Israel. The Turkish Ministry of Trade stated that this policy will remain in effect until Israel stops its attacks in Gaza and provides adequate access to humanitarian aid. The restricted items include iron products, steel, jet fuel, construction equipment, machinery, cement, granite, chemicals, pesticides, and bricks. The move is part of international pressure in Israel to end the violence and open humanitarian routes to Gaza. The citizens of Pattani Province, especially the Muslim Malay often face discrimination in various forms, from limitations of human rights, limited access to education and employment, and difficulties for people with disabilities in accessing proper facilities. This discrimination caused injustice that undermined the social fabric of the region. In the face of these challenges, the role of communities is crucial to advocates for change and intermediaries in the fight for equality and justice. Asst. On July 26, 2024, the Social Innovation Center for Local Governance and Sustainable Development (SLS), Faculty of Political Science, Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus, organized a visit to the place where the JaHai ethnic tribe lives, precisely in the forest of Sri Sakhon, Narathiwat, Southern Thailand. Dr. Netdao Yangyubon, head of SLS and lecturer at Prince of Songkla University, and friends led the visit. They started the journey from Prince of Songkla University in the morning and took about 2-3 hours. The visit aimed to research in-depth information about the JaHai tribe. Some of the important information we got was about where they came from, how they survived, their habits, and so on. Based on information, the JaHai Ethnic tribe has existed since about 50,000 years ago, they came from the African continent, when the ice melted in ancient times, and people from the African continent began to explore the world in search of a new life including Southeast Asia, South Tha

On 23rd July 2024, Asst. Prof. Dr. Anwar Koma, Local government PSU Pattani students and three Indonesian Intern students visited the Madinah Al-Salam Foundation. We were welcomed by Mr. Shaleh, the founder of the Madinah Al-Salam Foundation and an informant on our field trip. This field trip aims to get more new insights from this foundation. Madinah Al-Salam is a Non-Government Organization (NGO) project that has been running since 2010. The project hoped to become an ideal city with individual and community welfare. It also utilizes the principle of Hasanah’, which can refer to any action that is positive and beneficial for individuals and society. The project was to develop and improve sustainable facilities in various areas such as religion, culture, education, health, and economy. Saiful Akmal MA, students of Political Science Prince of Songkla University Pattani Campus, and four Internship students from Indonesia did a field trip to visit Haji Sulong residence in Pattani, Southern Thailand on July 7th, 2024. This activity aims to learn more new perspectives and discuss the history of Haji Sulong in the past. In Haji Sulong residence, Mr. Jaturon Lamsopha who is an active member of Pattani’s provincial council, welcomed us in Haji Sulong residence along with his wife Mrs. Fateehah Iamsopha. Both of them were entrusted to manage the heritage of Haji Sulong and also became our source of information during our field trip. Haji Sulong bin Abdul Kadir al-Fatani, popularly known as Haji Sulong, was a Malay Muslim leader who fought for the rights and autonomy of the Malay community in Pattani, Southern Thailand. On 5th July 2024, the Sri Wangsa Room, Faculty of Political Science at Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus held a special seminar with a Professor from Indonesia UIN Ar – Raniry Banda Aceh, Prof. Dr. Phil. Saiful Akmal MA. The seminar focused on “The Role of Language in Conflict Resolution: The Case of Aceh, Indonesia.” The seminar was hosted by Asst. Prof. Dr. Anwar Koma and Dr. Hafiz Salae. It was also attended by Dr. Abdulloh Yusoh and also introduced Dr. Zoltan Palla, a researcher from the Austrian Academy of Science who focuses on the issue of Islamic Parties in Thailand. The main objective of the seminar was to provide insight into the socio-political dynamics in Aceh and how language has a role in conflict resolution.
